A dead computer is rarely as dead as it looks

Black screens, endless spinning circles, blue screens with sad faces, or a power button that does absolutely nothing. Frightening, yes. Final, usually not. In my experience, most machines that "won't turn on" are suffering from something specific and findable: a failed power supply, a dying drive, a corrupted Windows installation, or one misbehaving component dragging everything else down.

I'll work through it methodically and find the real cause, not just the first plausible one. Then you get an honest answer. If it's worth fixing, I'll tell you what it costs before I start. If it isn't, I'll say that too, and help you move on sensibly instead of pouring money into a machine that's done.
