Too far to drive? Mail it in.
If you are outside eastern Connecticut, or you simply cannot get out to drop a machine off, you can ship it to me instead. Same work, same honest pricing, same phone call before anything gets done. It just arrives in a box rather than in your hands.
Four steps, and I do most of them.
Nothing about this is complicated, and you will never be surprised by a bill.
Tell me what it is doing
Fill in the form below with the make of the machine and what has gone wrong. I will reply with the shipping address and a rough idea of what to expect before you spend a cent on postage.
Pack it and send it
Send the computer itself and its power cable. Any carrier is fine. Put a note in the box with your name and phone number so nothing gets separated from its owner.
I look, then I call
When it lands I work out what is actually wrong and ring you with a price. Nothing gets repaired, and nothing gets charged, until you have said yes to a number.
It comes home
Once it is fixed and tested I pack it back up and ship it to you, and I will tell you plainly what I did and what to watch for.
Worth knowing before you post it
Mail-in suits some jobs beautifully and suits others badly, so here is the honest version. It is ideal for laptops that are slow, full of junk software, infected, overheating, or in need of a solid-state drive or more memory. Those are bench jobs. I do not need to see your desk to do them.
It is a poor fit for anything where the problem lives in your house rather than in the machine. Wi-Fi that drops in the back bedroom, a printer that will not talk to the laptop, a desktop that is fine until you plug in your own monitor: none of that travels. For those, an in-home visit or online help will get you a lot further.
Two things to be clear about, because I would rather say them up front than in an awkward phone call later. I do not offer file or data recovery, so if the machine holds photos or documents you cannot bear to lose, please copy them somewhere safe before you send it. And shipping is at your own risk and expense in both directions, so pack it well and insure it if it is valuable.
If you would rather just hand it over in person, a walk-in drop-off in Storrs is simpler and costs you nothing in postage.
Before you post anything
- Ask first and I will send you the address.
- The price is agreed on the phone before any work starts.
- If I cannot fix it, there is nothing to pay for the work.
- Parts are only ordered once you have said yes.
- You get a plain-English explanation of what I did.
Rather talk it through first? Call or text 860-786-1616, or send me a message. There is no charge to ask and no obligation to send anything.
Not sure mailing it is right?
There are three other ways to get the same help, and one of them may suit you better.
Drop It Off
Bring your computer to me in Storrs, leave it with me, and collect it when I call to say it is done.
Start a drop-off →We Come to You
I come out and sort things where they sit. It is $99 to get me there, which covers the first hour.
Book a home visit →Online Help
We talk on the phone while I look at your screen over the internet, so nobody has to leave home.
See if it suits you →Mail It
Too far to drive? Ship it to me and I will send it back to you once it is working.
How mail-in works →Distance does not have to be the reason it stays broken.
Send me a message, tell me what is wrong, and I will tell you honestly whether mailing it in is worth your postage.
